Maha Shivratri occurs on the fourteenth day after the full moon when the moon, representative of the human mind, is barely seen in the sky. On this night, the conquest of the mind is said to be easiest for the aspirant. The next day heralds the new moon or the complete eclipse of the mind due to the devoted remembrance and celebration of Lord Shiva during this auspicious time.
